Hot stone massage is one of the most relaxing and comforting massage treatments around and eases muscle tension to a deep level through the use of heat and pressure. The heat of the stones allows the muscles to relax 4-5 times quicker than in a standard body massage and really penetrates the muscle tissue for an amazingly deep massage.
Smooth, basaltic (volcanic) rocks are heated in water to a temperature of between 125 and 135 degrees. Some stones are then wrapped up and placed on energy centres (chakras) along the body to align and rebalance the body’s energy flow, whilst other smaller stones are used by the therapist to perform a body massage.
Stone massage therapy has been used by many different cultures for many years. Stones from river beds were either cooled by the water, or heated in a fire and placed on the body to relieve points of muscle tension or aches and pains.Modern day therapists apply the same techniques for a deeply relaxing massage designed to work on muscle tension at the deepest level.
The benefits of hot stone massage include:
* Improved circulation
* Increased lymphatic drainage (toxin removal)
* Improved blood flow to tissues
* Excellent for reducing muscular tension
* Relieves aches and pains
* Reduces stress and anxiety
